Time together, in nature

Gatherings

There are some things we can only experience in the company of others.

Gatherings are an opportunity to step outside the usual pace of our lives and spend intentional time together. Some are centered around a particular theme or threshold. Others may include nervous system practice, movement, time in nature, ceremony, conversation, shared food, or simply the experience of gathering with people who are willing to be curious together.

These aren't retreats from real life. They are places to come into closer relationship with it.

I create each gathering differently, responding to the season, the place, and what we are there to explore. Some may be playful and embodied. Others may ask us to sit closer to grief, change, uncertainty, pleasure, aging, death, or the questions we don't often make enough room for.

You don't need to arrive with a particular belief system, experience with somatic practice, or an intention to transform yourself. You only need a willingness to participate, pay attention, and see what the experience brings.

Death is one of the few experiences every one of us will encounter, and yet most of us have very few places where we can actually talk about it. We grieve people we've lost. We anticipate the loss of people we love. We experience endings that change us. Sometimes grief is immediate and consuming, and sometimes something that happened years ago suddenly finds its way back into our lives. I've spent a lot of time close to death, both personally and through more than two decades of working with people through trauma, grief, and profound change. One of the things I've learned is that there is no right way to do any of it.

Death & Soup is an invitation to spend an afternoon making room for our experiences of death, dying, grief, and loss. We'll begin with an embodied ceremony, followed by an invitation to share what you're carrying, what emerged, or simply to listen. You might come with a recent loss, an old grief, someone who is dying, an ending you're moving through, or curiosity about your own relationship with mortality.

What we might explore

  • A short walk into the surrounding landscape, leaning into the natural world as we explore death, loss, change, and the cycles of life.
  • Simple embodied practices that invite us to slow down, notice, and trust what our bodies are communicating.
  • Working with objects from nature and symbolism as ways of expressing experiences that may not have words.
  • Personal reflection and quiet time on the land.
  • Ritual to honor someone or something we've lost, acknowledge an ending, or explore our own relationship with death and impermanence.
  • An invitation to share and witness one another at the end of our ceremony. Sharing is always optional.

At 5:00, we'll shift gears and share homemade soup and bread together. Come as you are. You don't need to know what you want to say, and you certainly don't have to have any of it figured out.

On the table: I'll be serving a vegetarian butternut squash and white bean soup, along with homemade sourdough bread. The soup is gluten-free but does contain dairy; the bread contains gluten. Please note that the meal is prepared in my home kitchen, so I can't guarantee an allergen-free environment.

Details

  • Rain or shine. Please bring layers, rain gear, and sunscreen so you can be comfortable whatever the weather brings.
  • Please wear long pants and closed-toed shoes. We'll be walking a short distance into the surrounding landscape and spending some of our time outdoors.
  • Space is intentionally limited. The exact address and arrival details will be shared after registration.

There are things we long for that are easy to name, and others that live somewhere beneath language. A person. A place. Touch. Belonging. Freedom. Rest. Adventure. A different way of living. Something we've lost, something we've never had, or something we can feel pulling at us without quite knowing what it is. We're often quick to do something with our longing. We pursue it, judge it, dismiss it, try to satisfy it, or convince ourselves we shouldn't want what we want.

The Ache & The Offering is an invitation to spend an afternoon getting curious about the things we ache for without needing to make them happen or make them go away. We'll work with the body, the land, movement, symbolism, and quiet reflection, allowing longing to be something we experience rather than something we need to solve.

What we might explore

  • Embodied practices exploring how longing, wanting, and desire live in the body.
  • A short walk into the surrounding landscape, noticing what catches our attention and what we're naturally drawn toward.
  • Time alone on the land for reflection, curiosity, and listening.
  • Working with natural objects and symbolism to give form to something that may be difficult to name.
  • Creating a simple offering to honor what we're longing for rather than asking ourselves to release it.
  • An invitation to return to the circle and share what emerged. Sharing is always optional.

At 5:00, we'll gather around the table for seasonal bites, tea, and something sweet. This will be light food rather than a full dinner, so please plan accordingly. You don't need to arrive knowing what you're longing for. Perhaps that's part of the invitation.

There is a particular kind of longing that can live in the absence of a mother. Whether we have lost her to death, distance, circumstance, or the necessary boundaries of our own lives, there can remain a place in us that still reaches toward being gathered in, tended to, and carried. Motherlessness can leave us feeling strangely untethered in the world. We may have spent years being capable, caring for others, or even carrying our own mothers, only to discover that somewhere beneath all of that strength lives a much older desire to put our weight down and be held by something larger than ourselves.

The Motherless Wild is a ceremony for women who know this longing. We will gather on the land with what has been lost, what was never received, what remains unfinished, and what still lives within us. There is room for the mothers we loved and lost, the mothers we needed, the mothers we could not safely remain close to, and the mothers we may never have known. The wild knows something about belonging without asking us to explain where we came from. For an afternoon, we will let ourselves be daughters again and become curious about what it means to be carried by the earth beneath us, the women beside us, and whatever mystery we each understand to be larger than ourselves.

What we might explore

  • Embodied practices exploring support, weight, reaching, receiving, and the experience of being carried.
  • Time on the land to wander, listen, remember, grieve, or simply be with what is present.
  • Working with natural objects and symbolism to give shape to experiences that may be difficult to put into words.
  • Honoring what was received from our mothers alongside what was missing, complicated, or never ours to carry.
  • A simple ritual for laying something down, tending something that still aches, or acknowledging what remains.
  • Time in the company of other motherless daughters, with opportunities to share and be witnessed. Sharing is always optional.

As the afternoon moves toward dusk, we'll return to the circle together before gathering around the table at 5:00 for warm food, bread, and something sweet.

Details

  • Rain or shine. December afternoons can become cool quickly as the sun begins to drop, so bring warm layers along with long pants and sturdy closed-toed shoes.
  • We'll be spending a significant part of our afternoon outdoors and walking into the surrounding landscape.
  • Space is intentionally limited. The exact address and arrival details will be shared after registration.

We are wired for connection. We need one another. We want to be seen, chosen, touched, understood, and loved. And sometimes, without realizing it, we begin to organize so much of our experience of love around where it is coming from, who is giving it to us, and whether or not it will stay. But love is much bigger than what happens between two people. There is a capacity for love that lives within each of us, with its own particular shape and expression. The way we love, what we are drawn toward, what moves us, what we find beautiful, what we tend and protect, what awakens our tenderness, desire, devotion, and awe.

Re-centering Love is an invitation to spend an afternoon exploring that inner landscape. Through the body, the natural world, and ceremony, we'll make room for curiosity about our own experience of love and the ways it wants to move through us. We'll also widen our attention to the many places love exists beyond romantic partnership: in friendship, community, the living world, creativity, beauty, grief, and mystery. This isn't about needing other people less or convincing ourselves that we should be enough on our own. It's about remembering that no single person was ever meant to hold the entirety of our experience of love.

What we might explore

  • Embodied practices exploring our capacity to experience, receive, and express love.
  • A solo wander on the land, following curiosity, attraction, beauty, and whatever naturally draws our attention.
  • Exploring the inner lover and the particular ways love moves through each of us.
  • Time alone on the land for reflection, listening, and discovery.
  • Working with natural objects and symbolism as part of our exploration.
  • A simple ritual for widening and re-centering our experience of love.
  • An invitation to return to the circle and share what emerged. Sharing is always optional.

At 5:00, we'll gather around the table for a winter spread of good bread, cheese, seasonal fruit, olives, nuts, something sweet, hot spiced cider, and tea. This will be light food rather than a full dinner, so please plan accordingly.
